Our recent 3rd grade trip to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond

This guest post comes from our great 3rd grade team about their recent field trip to Richmond. 

 On Tuesday, March 5th and Wednesday, March 6th, the Baker-Butler 3rd graders traveled to Richmond to visit the VMFA museum! We did the “Taste of the Ancient Worlds” tour and took self-guided tours of the 20th century exhibit, Faberge eggs, and touch museum. Our 3rd graders saw many amazing artifacts of Ancient Egypt, China, Rome, Greece and Mali. Some highlights include an Egyptian mummy, Greek pottery and Roman statues. This field trip truly brought our studies of Ancient Civilizations to life! We appreciate the generous financial support from our PTO and the many parent volunteers and chaperones who helped make this trip possible!

Escape Club

This week's featured guest blog post comes from Sabra Timmins, who works as an ESOL teacher (students who speak English as a Second or Other Language) with our English Learners. This was an after school club she coordinated with other teachers for any students in 4th and 5th grades this winter.

What do a Haunted Laboratory, a Bigfoot Conspiracy, and a Mystery Without the Usual Suspects have in common?  

These are all escape challenges that student groups designed for each other as part of BBES's first Escape Club.  During the 6 weeks of the program thirty-five 4th and 5th graders met after school to crack codes, solve riddles, and work out work problems to sharpen their logic skills and become better cooperative problem solvers. 

Everyone had a lot of fun and we were impressed with the creativity these students brought to their designs.

UVA Football visitors in 2nd grade

Some UVA football players recently visited our 2nd Grade students. Check out this guest blog post from Tonya Klimas!

UVA Football players Reed Kellam and Tucker Finkelston visited Baker-Butler on Friday, February 22nd. Kellam and Finkelston spent time engaging with 2nd graders during recess to model positive social interactions and great sportsmanship. Our students loved communicating with these athletes, throwing the football and lining up in formation to practice skills.Thanks for coming and we hope to have you back again soon!
