Welcome (back) Ms. Peterson

We are excited to welcome back Ms. Christine Peterson (née Scott) to Baker-Butler as our new Assistant Principal!

We know that you all will enjoy getting to work with Ms. Peterson starting this year. She will be working on a variety of projects, and she will be the primary administrator for PK, 1st, 3rd, and 5th grades this year while Mr. Saunders works primarily with Kindergarten, 2nd grade, and 4th grade.

We asked Ms. Peterson to share some information with our families, and below is a quick background and some facts about her.

A Little about Ms. Peterson:

Eighteen years ago, the namesake of Baker-Butler Elementary, John Baker, recruited me to teach for Albemarle County Public Schools at a job fair in Western New York. I enthusiastically accepted his invitation and began my teaching career as a Special Education Teacher at Woodbrook Elementary.  Two years later, I became part of the opening staff at Baker-Butler.  I worked at Baker-Butler for 7 years as both a Second Grade Classroom Teacher and Literacy Specialist. I loved being a Baker-Butler Bear but felt called to grow professional, so I accepted a position as an Instructional Coach for our School Division working at several of ACPS’ elementary schools for 4 years. In this role, I supported teachers by helping them to actualize their professional goals.  My coaching work led me to Greer Elementary School where I worked for 5 years.  At Greer, I served on the Intervention/Prevention team, supported teachers professional learning and team collaboration, and last year became an Assistant Principal Intern.

I am delighted to be returning to Baker Butler and cannot wait to serve the community!  It truly feels like I am coming home!  I value young people and learning and am passionate about helping students and teacher learn and grow!

Here are a few little tidbits about me:

·         I am originally from Western NY, about 40 minutes south of Buffalo.  However, I have lived in Virginia for 18 years.

·         I am an alum of three Colleges/Universities:  SUNY Geneseo, UVA, and JMU.

·         I am a wife. My husband is Kurt and he is from the Tar Heel state of NC.

·         I am a mom. My daughter Sophia (she goes by “Pia”) and son Evan attend school at Hollymead Elementary.  They are going into 3rd grade and 1st grade.

·         My family loves staying active. We enjoy hiking, biking, swimming, soccer, and exploring new places.

·         I love do-it-your-self projects and always have some home improvement or crafting project going.

·         Aside from a fish, my family is currently pet-less.  This past year, we said good-bye to two old beloved dogs.

·         I like to run.

·         I like to read historical fiction.

·         I am always open to learning and trying new things.

·         I love to laugh and strive to be positive.
